Born in 1960 and based in Amsterdam. Joke Kegel began taking piano lessons at age 8. For more than a decade she studied composition
in the old and new western music at the MIEV, (Music Institution founded by musicologist Edgard Vreuls) developing the basis for her own
language as composer. She passed state exames for piano, didactics, music-history and analysis. Subsequently she graduated from the
department 'Contemporary Music Through non-Western Techniques' (composition and reading-ensemble) at the Conservatory of Amsterdam.
She studied with Rafael Reina, Jos Zwaanenburg, Daan Manneke, Fabio Nieder and others.
She explored many techniques on different instruments, intermedia with video, poetry/theatre-performances, and dance-music-theatre.
